The Leftist Marching Band

Where else but Portsmouth?

They arrived out of the six o’clock shadow of the Old North Church … Feet marching. Horns honking. Drums ba-da-booming.

Ladies and Gentlemen! The Leftist Marching Band! Marching down Market Street. And banging a right at 13 Market Street.

G.Willikers! We had mentioned to the band that it was our birthday and invited them to pop over to say hello. To our utter delight and eternal gratitude, these whimsical musical troubadours honored us with the best 40th birthday greeting imaginable.

They marched to the back of the store … then proceeded to light the place up with their own special Leftist Marching Band brand of love and good will, humanity and justice for all.

Cranking out “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” and “Meet the Flintstones.” Touching our hearts with Woody Guthrie’s classic Americana anthem “This Land is Your Land.”

A uniquely Market Street moment in which the wonderful world of “Mother Bruce” and Dr. Seuss intersects with the spirit of Woody Guthrie and John Philip Sousa.

The Leftist Marching Band.

They came. They played.
And then they left, left.
Left.
Left.
Left.

Here’s the Leftist Marching Band leading Portsmouth’s 2018 Pride Parade. I didn’t plan to ride out front for a moment, or to have the scene captured by Ioanna Raptis, but it sure was fun.
